Engineer and surveyor with MARTIN, OTTAWAY, van HEMMEN & DOLAN, INC. Areas of specialization include ship surveys, structural and mechanical system survey, claim formulation, shipboard operations, cargo handling, and navigation.

February 2008 - March 2008
Engineering Instructor onboard the T.V. "KINGS POINTER", operated by the U.S. MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY, to assist and prepare senior midshipmen for their upcoming USCG engineer licensing exams.

March 2007 - August 2007
Corporate Insurance and Claims Coordinator with HAPAG-LLOYD (AMERICA) INC. Investigated, handled and settled cargo damage claims. Gathered relevant information from all concerned parties and applied shipping rules and contracts to determine liable parties and limits of liability to offer claim settlements.

September 2006 - December 2006
3rd Officer with U.S. SHIPPING PARTNERS LLC aboard the company's ITB tanker fleet. Supervised tanker operations and shipboard safety and SOLAS equipment maintenance as well as carried out the duties common with a 3rd mate including navigation, piloting, bridge resource management, trim and stability calculations, general maintenance, ballasting operations, cargo hold and tank inspections and line handling.

June 2006 - September 2006
Training mate with McALLISTER TOWING of NEW YORK, LLC. aboard the company's tugboats participating in daily duties including barge and ship-handling operations, pilotage, and tug-boat maintenance.

November 2002 - June 2005
Engineering and Deck Cadet with various companies aboard bulk carriers, RO-RO vessels, tanker vessels and container ships while attending the U.S. MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY.

Notable Projects

Participation in the United States Merchant Marine Academy's Alternative Power Program. Noteworthy projects included construction of the world's first hydrogen fuel-cell powered boat and construction of a solar hydrogen fuel-cell powered house.

Competitive small boat sailing and team racing. Awarded U.S. Sailing's National Team Race Championship (Hinman Trophy) in 2005.
