Francis A. Martin attended aboard the Morro Castle, while she was beached off Convention Hall in Asury Park, New Jersey on behalf of Owners to survey the vessel and to agree on the vessel's status with regard to salvage and repairs with underwriter's representatives.

Survey of the vessel indicated that the damages from the fire and the cost to salvage the vessel exceeded the vessel's insured value and the vessel was declared a Constructive Total Loss.
